OUR JOURNEY

Arms around Africa started in Kampala Uganda in 2007, expanded to Eswatini in 2018 and then Mali in 2019.

We saw a need in Uganda that children and vulnerable women did not have the resources to lead their lives to the fullest and we decided to address that need with our organization.

Quickly we realized that this is an Africa wide problem, and decided to expand.

OUR MISSION

Making Africa a better place

How we do this:

By addressing the basic need of lack of recreation spaces that removes the right to play for children in the urban poor neighbourhoods.

2007

AAAF IS FOUNDED

An influx of vulnerable children on the streets of Kampala and founding member Nabilah Naggayi Sempala who was a member of parliament at the time for Kampala felt that something had to be done to offer support beyond what was available.

2009

AAAF Acquires a centre in Makindye division, Kampala

This new centre in Kampala allowed the organization to reach out to the more vulnerable neighbourhoods since it is located in Katwe,  one of the slums in Uganda.

2010

AAAF starts working with children through the music and dance program

This program was successful and many of the children went on to use it as a stepping stone for a various life pathways. Some went on to have a colourful career in music like the ghetto kids of Uganda who started in this program.

2014

We start working with different partners

AAAF starts partnerships with different schools, community associations and faith based organizations.

Through these collaborations a synergy is created that helps AAAF expand into the wider community.

2018

Eswatini Chapter is created

An AAAF Chapter is created in Eswatini, southern Africa in partnership with the Ndlovukazi's (Queen Mother's) Association.

2020

The Mali Chapter is created

An AAAF Chapter is created in Mali, Western Africa, an initiative that was started inspired by Oumou Sangaré, who is a Grammy award winning Malian Wassoulou songstress.
